New this year are: douglas fir, bald cypress, red mulberry, arrowwood viburnum, tulip poplar, sassafras, American hazelnut, spicebush, highbush blueberry, butterfly milkweed plugs, foxglove beardtongue plugs, and a butterfly and hummingbird perennial garden seed mix.

We want to thank the woodshop at Lakeview High School for graciously constructing all of our polylumber platform bird feeders and cedar squirrel feeders this year. Poly-lumber is a material that utilizes recycled milk cartons. It is very durable and splinter-free. Cedar is a naturally rot-resistant wood.

Time: Doors open at 5:30 PM; Dinner at 6 PM

Cost: $20/ person

Call (724) 662-2242 to purchase tickets.

We welcome Jason Bittel, writer and contributor to publications including National
Geographic, the Washington Post, and Smithsonian Magazine, as our guest speaker for the
evening. With a passion for wildlife, he will be sharing some of his personal experiences showcasing: ruffed grouse, white-tail deer, and native bats; he will shed light into many current threats these species are experiencing.

Rain barrel projects designed by local middle school students throughout Mercer County will be on display. This is the debut of their projects that will be implemented at their respective schools.
The evening will conclude with “Pioneers in Conservation” awards, recognizing individuals or organizations who have invested in the idea of conservation and have made it their mission to inspire others through their actions.
NOTE: The March 31st program at Grove City Agway has been postponed.  Stay tuned for updates on a re-schedule date.
Come join the Mercer County Conservation District, Buhl Farm Park, Lawrence & Mercer Recycling and Solid Waste Department, and Grove City Agway for a program designed to showcase how landowners can get involved in backyard conservation programs highlighting water conservation and composting with hands-on project construction. Participants will learn about the relationship between nonpoint source pollution and stormwater run-off, looking at the role rain barrels can play in limiting the potential for suspended pollution in the local waters. The participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the importance of compost and ways to develop their own. At the end of the program, participants will get to make one of these two projects.
