Munnell Run Farm
Green Projects - Clean Water - Munnell Run Farm
Munnell Run Farm is a 163-acre working farm located on Route 58 West, 1 mile north of Mercer.  Currently, the farm is home to an award-winning local beef farmer and an agriculture and ecology education facility.  The farm is a showcase of conservation practices, both agricultural and rural, that demonstrate wise use of land, water, and energy resources.  Although it is a work in progress, it features such practices as a solar-powered water distribution system, a wind energy turbine, barnyard runoff control with a constructed wetland for treatment, rotational grazing system, contour strip cropping, stabilized agricultural stream crossings, diversion terrace and grassed waterway, and a reestablished riparian buffer along its namesake stream, Munnell Run.  In addition to these conservation improvements, the farm hosts a trout nursery for the Neshannock Chapter of Trout Unlimited to rear and release approximately 2,000 trout annually in local streams .  Finally, it is also the home of the Mercer County Conservation District.
